How Play, Games, and Sports Help Kids Grow at School
Saturday, January 24, 2026
9:00am - 12:30pm
San Francisco Waldorf School
We are delighted to welcome Valerie Baadh Garrett — Movement Artist, Educator, Somatic Movement Therapist, Writer, and former SFWS Director of Movement Education (K–12) for 15 years — for a dynamic parent workshop on how play, games, and sports support healthy child development. Valerie will guide parents through cooperative movement experiences and share practical insights on the right kinds of physical activity at each developmental stage, from early childhood through the elementary years. We’ll explore the importance of free play, time in nature, sensory and neurological development, and when and why to introduce competitive sports. Examples from Waldorf classrooms, as well as ideas for weekends and after-school life, will be included. Space is limited; registration and registration is required. Please come in comfortable clothing and shoes — we’ll be moving!
